An Art-Filled New York Summer 2023: The Met, MoMa and Broadway

In early August 2023, while my daughter was visiting her father in England, I took a much needed trip to New York. This was, by no means, my first trip to New York. I've been many times before, but it had been more than a decade since I last visited so it was also quite nostalgic for me. I stayed with a close friend of mine and her family who live just outside of New York city, in Mohegan Lake. This was very much an art filled trip. I visited the Metropolitan Museum where a Van Gogh exhibition called Van Gogh's Cypresses was being shown. I also visited Museum of Modern Art (Art) where a Georgia O'Keeffe exhibition (one of my favorite modern female artists) was being shown called "To See Takes Time". I also went to see a Broadway show called "Book of Mormon" playing at the Eugene O'Neill Theatre. It was a typical New York summer weather with hot and humid days with some showers here and there. See highlights from my fun filled 5 days in New York below:

Other art collections at the Met:

After a full day at the Met, where I didn't even finish seeing half the art collections, I met up with my friend and went to see the Broadway play, "The Book of Mormon" at Eugene O'Neill Theatre.

Georgia O'Keeffe's exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art "To See Takes Time". The exhibition showcased her various sketches in multiple mediums from charcoal to pastel to watercolor and oil. The main theme of the exhibition was that to really see the essence of a thing takes time and repetition. This was illustrated in the various stages of her painting process, where these initial sketches showed repetitive patterns until a final painting emerged.

Other highlights from Museum of Modern Art and a couple of Sudanese artists: Ibrahim Al Salahi "The Mosque" and Kamala Ibrahim Ishag's "Untitled":

After Moma, we took a ferry down to Wall Street. It was a golden afternoon and the light and view were stunning.

The next couple of days were more relaxed, with swimming at the local pool, chilling at my friend's hammock in the backyard with some brunch and shopping thrown in.
